The Great Aussie Pub
Who we're here for
G’day, my name is Jono Hart.
I'm the original Pub Whisperer.
I reconnect pubs with their purpose, post the pandemic of 2020/21.
That purpose is far more than selling drinks and meals - it’s to create camaraderie and care within the community.
When pubs closed their doors due to COVID19 only to reopen them with stringent new rules, many felt much more isolated than ever before. Many questioned their sanity and state of mental health.
I'm here to assist publicans and their bar staff in supporting their patrons like never before – and in doing so get the community back on track.
This is done through different projects such as The Suicide Prevention Checklist, The Pubs Supporting People Days and Suicide Prevention Training for Publicans and Bar Staff through The Pub Whisperer.
My team and I believe that it's great people that make great pubs. And what makes a great person these days? Well, the no. 1 leadership trait is "kindness". We all need to be kind. Especially to those down on their luck. Especially when suicide rates are excessively high.
We're all in this together. So lets make good pubs, great pubs ... with a little more empathy and some plans in place.
My Story
In 2017, I travelled outback Australia with my family of 5 filming some of Australia’s most iconic pubs on the journey and setting up the website greataussiepubs.com.au.
Most had great memorabilia. Many had masses of tourists. And many retained that authentic community feel. That open-minded approach which accepts each of us as we truly are.
More than just the centre of the community, the greatest ones opened their doors and their hearts to anyone. They made isolation disappear.
Who Am I
I’m an award-winning print journalist, radio announcer, public speaker. established environmental entrepreneur and a mental health survivor.
A certified Reiki Master, I am the proud father of four beautiful children and I address the question: do we need to redefine the Aussie larrikin – from one who says “she’ll be right, mate” to one who asks “are ya alright, mate?”.
My Why is to assist humanity and the planet in healing from past trauma.
